Spheroidal particles suspension and sedimentation in fluid flows draw much attention from academia and industry. In this study, a lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) is developed to study these flows. Three aspects of relevant research are carried on. First, the energy dissipation about spheroidal particle suspension at low-Reynolds (Re)-numbers Couette flows is investigated to test that whether Jeffery’s hypothesis (Jeffery 1922) is correct. (‘The particle will tend to adopt that motion which, of all the motions possible under the approximated equations, corresponds to the least dissipation of energy’). At Re about 1, our results invalidate the hypothesis. Second, the translation and rotational modes of sedimentation at low Re inside both circular and square tubes are obtained. An interesting anomalous rolling mode is found in the square tubes. It is also found that near a transitional regime, in terms of average value, a lighter ellipsoid may settle faster than a heavier one. Third, two sphere particles’ behaviors when they settle down are also investigated. Several typical translation modes are obtained. The study may shed light on our understanding in Rheology or mechanism of particle-fluid flows.

黄海波,中国科学技术大学副教授,德国洪堡学者,2012年入选教育部“新世纪优秀人才”计划。1999年本科毕业于中国科学技术大学。2002年获中国科学院工程热物理研究所硕士学位。2003年至2006年在新加坡国立大学(NUS)机械工程系攻读并获博士学位。2006.11至2007.11在美国佛罗里达国际大学(FIU)从事博士后研究。2010.6至2011.6在德国Tech. Univ., Braunschweig开展合作研究。主要从事计算流体力学、格子玻尔兹曼方法、多相流、流固耦合、两相渗流等方面的研究工作。至2014年4月,在SCI 收录刊物上已发表(含已接收)论文 38 篇(其中在<<Phys. Rev. E>>, <<Phys. Fluids>>, <<J. Fluid Mech.>>, <<J. Comp.Phys.>>四种期刊上已发表文章13篇,13篇之中9篇为第一作者,10篇为通讯作者)。已发表文章影响因子总和 63.5(按2012各杂志影响因子计)。据Web of Knowledge 统计SCI他引接近 270次(总引用约320次),h-index= 12。是 J. Fluid Mech, Int. Numer. Meth. fluids, Int. J. Heat Mass Trans, J. Comp. Phys.等杂志审稿人,国家自然科学基金通讯评议人,教育部留学回国人员启动基金评审专家。2012年获中国科学技术大学校友基金会优秀青年教师奖。
