报告摘要:

Geomaterials are a highly heterogeneous material. The deformation and failure mechanisms of geomaterials are attributed to the microstructure of different scales from atomistic to micro and are coupled. Multiscale characterization and modeling will provide the insights for understanding the behavior of geomaterials and guiding material design. This presentation will cover a range of multiscale characterization methods including AFM, TEM, and CTs; and modeling techniques including MD, DEM, FEM and digital specimen and test techniques for different phenomena of geomaterials.

报告人简介:

Dr. Linbing Wang is a professor in civil engineering materials and pavement at Virginia Tech. He is the founding chair for the Committee on Mechanics of Pavements, and the Vice Chair of the Nanomechanics and Micromechanics committee of the Engineering Mechanics Institute of ASCE. He has led more than 50 research projects with a total of $13.1 million funded by NCHRP, FHWA, NSF, DoD, DoA, DoTs, MOST and CNSF. His research areas include paving materials, pavement design and evaluation, and pavement related geotechnical solutions. Specific focus of his research include multiscale characterization, modeling and simulation; smart and sustainable technologies; energy harvesting; health monitoring; innovative infrastructure assessment and performance predictions; high performance and multifunctional materials; pavement testing and mechanistic pavement design; infrastructure preservation and management; and application of remote sensing and imaging techniques. Dr. Wang has served as member of committees of TRB, ASCE, and panels of NCHRP and NSF. He also served as the President for the International Association of Chinese Infrastructure Professionals. Dr. Wang is the author of Mechanics of Asphalt, Microstructure and Micromechanics, McGraw Hill.
