报告摘要:
Although lithium ion batteries have been evolving remarkably in decades, the energy density and cycle life still need to be improved to meet the DOE target for EV applications in competition with combustion engine. In addition, global warming and environmental pollution propelled the efforts of searching better electrode materials forward. Silicon as its superb electrochemical property for a promising anode material for high energy batteries, has been extensively explored. However the volume change in cycling process as the lithiation and delithiation proceed, leads to electrode active material pulverization and delamination, and accumulates undesired solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI) on silicon electrode surface, hindered its electrode performance.
To overcome the aforementioned challenge to achieving DOE target, several noticeable novel designs have been experimented and their exciting results been reported: (1) A unique double-walled nanotube anode structure confining volume expanding only inward during lithiation, has been reported to have surpassed the DOE target; (2) A thin silicon film deposited on multilayer graphene on a nickel foam substrate, has displayed a higher stability; (3) A three-dimensional hierarchical sandwich-type graphene sheet-sulfur/carbon composite cathode structure, has reported to have much better battery performance as the result of graphene inter-connected conducting network.
