报告摘要:

This talk will be the in-situ mechanics for studying the mechanical behavior at atomistic scale for nanometer-sized single element metallic glass and crystal BCC metals. The experimental molecular dynamics with the in-situ high resolution TEM is going to open a new approach to directly observe atomic-scaled deformation with in-sit mechanics. I will cover the high stress induced lattice disturbance, dislocation dipole nucleation and competition between slip and twinning in the deformation process of nano-sized body center cubic metals1 and deformation in single elemental metallic glasses.

 

报告人简介:

Professor Mao is the William Kepler Whiteford Professor in Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science at the University of Pittsburgh. He obtained his Ph.D. in Tohuku University in 1988. He worked at M.I.T. and Harvard University as post-doc and visiting faculty. He was chair of Mechanical Behavior of Materials committee in TMS/ASM.

Dr. Mao has published over 200 papers in the area of monoatomic metallic glass discovery through in situ TEM, in situ transmission electron microscope characterization and synthesis, behavior of nanocrystalline, nanowires and carbon nanotubes.
